ALL ABOUT ME
My name is Johanna Castillo (formerly known as Mrs. Cox) and I am very happy to have your child in my room this school year. I graduated from Sam Houston State University and I have been an Early Childhood Educator for almost thirteen years. Teaching young children is a great fulfillment and a calling for me. I have high expectations that this school year will be a successful one as the years before.

Working Together
I am available to speak with you during my conference time unless I have a meeting. We know that when the parents and the teachers communicate and work together, the students also perform better. You as parents and I as a teacher want the best for your child, so please know that you have all of my support and I hope I can count on you with your support.

Weekly Communication
I communicate weekly via email, using the email you provided to the school in your child's emergency card. Additionally, we have a daily communication folder and a Friday folder that go home with information that will keep you up to date. You can contact me via email and I will respond to you within a 24 hour period or earlier during the school week. If you have any questions, doubts, concerns or praise then please feel free to contact me.

PARENT INFORMATION
Transportation
If for any reason your child has a change in transportation, please send a dated note to school, with their first and last name, signature required, telling about the change. ~Without a note, they will have to follow their regular way of transportation. This is mainly for the safety of your child.

Lunch
Lunch cost $2.55.

You may visit www.schoolpaymentsolutions.com~to add money to your child's lunch account.

You can pull up our monthly school lunch menu by visiting the CISD homepage > Departments > Child Nutrition > PK-6 Menus > Birnham Woods.

Medication
If you need to send medicine to school for your child, you must deliver the medicine in person to the school nurse. No medicines are allowed on the bus or backpacks.

Labeling
It is important to label lunch boxes, sweaters, jackets, backpacks, etc. with your child’s first and last name. ~This will ensure that misplaced or lost items get returned quickly.

Snack & Water Bottles
Please send your child with a healthy  and dry snack every day. We ask that you send a non-spillable water bottle.

Birthdays
Birthdays are special occasions for young children. You may send a special treat (store brought/no peanuts or candy please) on that day for your child to pass out during the last 10 minutes of lunch time to his/her classmates. We prefer non-messy, easy-to-clean up treats such as cookies, brownies, cake balls, rice crispy treats, etc.
There is a new district wide expectation that all birthday treats distributed at school will be store bought and NOT homemade. Please understand there will be no exceptions for birthday treats. If you choose to celebrate your child's special day at school by bringing a delicious treat, please know it has to be store bought. Thank you for your compliance to this new expectation.
